Let's keep trying to hammer out a time to gather. What about a Sunday afternoon/early evening? And Brewed Awakening is cool!

Angela,

Let's have coffee some time. I have read Secret Message, Shack and am currently reading Jesus wants to save christians. Josh, I am not too far into it, but it is lining up for me. If yany of you haven't read Last Word by Mclaren, it might be good to go back to.

hey, Barbara, hope all is better-er in your world.

I'd be down for going deeper in The Shack too -- was it here, or on Rick's blog, that Young joined in the conversation? Anyway, that would be good.

I am currently re-reading a couple of John Fischer books I love - and Fearless Faith is one and Twelve Steps for the Recovering Pharisee (Like Me!) is the title of the other. Both are excellent - he is a spiritual hero of mine, and if anyone would ever like to delve into those, I'd love that conversation too.

Soooo glad to find life still here - I've been so wrapped up in my own and in the election, I've been forgetting to check in here. Good to be back. :-) WELCOME ANGELA.

The library just came through for me, with The Secret Message of Jesus (McLaren). I need that stuff, because I'm really new at thinking it's safe to call myself a follower of Jesus. It's still a little hard, being surrounded by... weird theology.

I mean, I'm walking down the street basking in God's love, and appreciating Jesus and all that, and I'll run into, I don't know, a bumper sticker that says "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven." And then all those demons jump up in front of me saying "See? You are fooling yourself." (I always wonder if the fine print says, "And you're not! Nya-nya!")

I shouldn't whine, though, because really, what I mostly notice is how much easier seeking God is now that I'm willing to let Jesus lead the way. :)

Was that off-topic? In my defense, I started with a book I'm reading. Anybody else read this one?

Angela, I'm glad that you're enjoying the Shack. I too, enjoyed it much more than I anticipated. I've got a post in the works to prep people for a Shack discussion... with audio from a recent William Young (the author) talk on the book. From there we'll discuss a date that will work for most epinoians.

I'm about a third of the way through Jesus Wants to Save Christians (Rob Bell's newest book), and to this point, I'm a little disappointed. But, I'll be sure to let you know how I feel about it.

I wonder whether the reason our church clubs don't work well is because they don't focus on teaching us to embrace the suffering Jesus but instead to focus on the "santa" Jesus, you know, I do this for you, you do that for me?
